He earned his medical degree magna cum laude from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois, and then did an internship in the Department of General Surgery at Loyola University. His ophthalmology residency was at the Northwestern University Department of Ophthalmology in Chicago. He later completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgical disease at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. He also received additional training in blepharoplasty surgery under Dr. Henry Baylis in Santa Monica, California.
