Dr. A. N. Alain, M.D., FAAD

Dr. A. N. Alain, M.D., FAAD, is a dermatologist at The Skin and Wellness Center in Orange County. She is U.S. board certified and uses the FAAD designation, and she has held a 20-year fellowship title with the American Academy of Dermatology. She is also a Fellow of the American Society for Mohs Surgery and a former fellow of the American Society for Photodynamic Therapy. The team page also lists her as Nili Alai, M.D.

Her education started with undergraduate study at the University of South Alabama, where she was named a Presidential Scholar. She received her M.D. in 1994 from the College of Medicine in Mobile. A year of general surgery at the University of California, Irvine came next, followed by a research year at the Beckman Laser Institute in Irvine. During her UCI dermatology residency she served as chief resident in 1999 and completed Mohs training that year. A fellowship year in the UCI Department of Dermatology centered on photodynamic therapy. Early in her career, Dr. Gerald Weinstein at the University of California trained her in psoriasis treatment.

Beginning in 1996 as a clinical research fellow, she became lead investigator on several new dermatologic therapies and co-investigator on more than 12 clinical trials. For over ten years she was a professor in the UCI Department of Dermatology, and she has also worked as a clinical instructor and lecturer in the UCI Department of Family Medicine. She completed a four-year term as an expert medical reviewer for the California Medical Board. Her articles have appeared for WebMD, MedicineNet and eMedicine. She has spoken for the Medical Education Speakers Network since 1999, has delivered more than 50 certified continuing medical education lectures, and founded The Skin Care Conference, an annual Laguna, California symposium that she chairs.

She has practiced in Southern California for more than 20 years. Her Mohs surgery caseload exceeds 1,200, mainly head and neck basal and squamous cell skin cancers. She has spent over two decades treating psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Specialties include photodynamic therapy for acne, actinic keratosis, warts, hidradenitis suppurativa and skin rejuvenation, along with notalgia paresthetica, brachioradial pruritus, Botox, Dysport, and varicose and spider vein therapy. Facial rejuvenation injections include Restylane, Collagen, Juvederm and Radiesse. She received America's Top Dermatologist awards for 2012, 2013 and 2014, and a Most Compassionate Physician Award for 2013-2014. Clients benefit from her supportive approach.
