Demetra Lewis, known as Demi, owns StylesByDemi in Newark, Delaware. She began doing hair at 15, working on neighborhood friends. Her first job was as a shampoo assistant at HairTrendz Salon in Newark. She opened her first salon at 21 and has worked in the business since. She trained at American Beauty Academy, enrolling full-time at 16 after finishing ninth grade. After graduating, she worked in a salon and took house calls while building a clientele. She passed the Delaware state board theory exam on her fourth attempt and is a licensed cosmetologist in Delaware.
