Deborah Mayfield owns Admirations and started the salon in 1989. She has been a licensed cosmetologist in Pennsylvania since 1985, the year she received her cosmetology certification. Before opening her own business she worked at PHD Hair Studio, and in 1986 she set up A and D Hair Studio with a business partner in the Empire Building at 13th and Sansom Streets.

She returned to school in 1993 and received a Teachers Certification in Cosmetology. Her specialty is all-natural, chemical-free hair care, and she also offers relaxers, weaves, braids, curls, hair color and dreadlock maintenance. She works with clients on both hair care and beauty concerns.
