David W. Kim, MD

David W. Kim, MD, is a facial plastic surgeon at Dr. David W. Kim Facial Plastics in San Francisco. He earned a B.A. in human biology at Stanford University, then an M.D. and surgical residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at the University of California, San Diego. He trained in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery through a fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago, working with Dean Toriumi, J. Regan Thomas, M. Eugene Tardy and Gary Burget. From 2003 to 2009 he chaired the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UCSF. His practice centers on rhinoplasty, including primary, revision and functional procedures. He also performs complex nasal reconstruction and reconstruction of congenital and traumatic facial deformities, along with facelifts, neck lifts, forehead lifts and eyelid surgery. He is trained in in-office procedures such as Botox Cosmetic, fillers, fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing and IPL skin resurfacing. Referring physicians often send him complicated cases. He was principal investigator on a multi-center prospective quality of life study of functional rhinoplasty for nasal obstruction, supported by an AAFPRS Investigator Development Grant. He is currently studying objective testing methods in facial plastic surgery and patient-based outcome measures. He has published over 50 papers, articles and chapters, has taught at more than 50 conferences, and has directed courses at large facial plastic surgery meetings. He serves on the board of directors of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as its Western Region Director. He was recognized as a 2026 Castle Connolly Top Doctors honoree, which the site describes as a top 7% nationwide distinction.
