About
Dana Scarton is the founder and sole practitioner of The Zen Point and is a licensed acupuncturist in Maryland who has practiced in Bethesda since 2018. She holds the Dipl. Ac. credential, holds national certification in acupuncture, and has completed three national board examinations. She earned a master's degree in acupuncture from Maryland University of Integrative Health in 2018. She then spent three years with the ElectroAcupuncture Institute, reaching mastermind level, and trained in the Balance Method and in ear and scalp micro-maps. She is also certified in Acutonics, a method that applies tuning forks to acupuncture points. She later spent about a year at an academic integrative health clinic. Before treating athletes, she worked as a sports journalist, writing for outlets including the New York Times, the Washington Post, U.S. News & World Report and Washingtonian and covering the Olympics, fitness, medicine and sport. Her main work is facial acupuncture and rejuvenation, including motorized microneedling, and neuroelectric acupuncture for a defined group of neurological cases, such as Parkinson's symptoms where the focus is autonomic symptoms rather than the disease itself. She also practices dry needling and pediatric acupuncture. She treats athletes and active adults, many of whom have already tried specialists, exercise, medication or physical therapy. She reads the research before adopting a technique and will share studies with patients who want the mechanism explained. She also gives talks on healthy aging and the research behind electroacupuncture.
