About

Dr. Cheryl Burgess founded the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery in Washington, DC and serves as its president and medical director. She is a board-certified dermatologist with more than 20 years of experience in dermatology, and she is known nationally and internationally as one of the experts in her field.

She earned her medical degree from Howard University and trained at Howard University College of Medicine. She completed an internal medicine internship and then a dermatology residency at Howard University Hospital. She holds an Assistant Clinical Professor appointment in the Department of Dermatology at Georgetown University Medical Center and George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Her focus includes skin rejuvenation and skin care, skin evaluations and treatment, and a full range of medical and surgical diagnostic services for skin, hair and nails. She is known for scar revision and hair loss work, and for her work with skin of color concerns. Her practice also includes medical dermatology alongside anti-aging and cosmetic enhancement treatments.

Dr. Burgess has served as principal investigator in dermatology clinical trials for over 20 years, with research interests in dermatology medicines and cosmetic products, particularly for skin of color. She co-founded Black Opal, a cosmetic and skincare line designed for ethnic skin, and has published in peer-reviewed journals and authored a textbook. She has also been an invited lecturer for dermatology and aesthetic medicine organizations, is an inducted member of the American Dermatological Association, and appears in a weekly dermatology segment on NBC-WRC Mid-Day News in Washington, DC. Washingtonian Magazine named her among its peer-chosen top dermatologists and, in 2022, called her its best doctor.
