Chakay Smith

Chakay Smith founded The Bar Aesthetics and also founded The Bar Hair Ink Academy. She holds a cosmetology license, works as a Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) specialist and educator, and is an international speaker. She received international training as an SMP educator. Her work in beauty began with lash artistry. She came back to the industry in 2013 after earlier work as a police officer and as a business owner. In 2016 she added permanent makeup, with an emphasis on luxury brows, and in 2018 she moved into SMP. She is the first African American female SMP artist in the Bay Area. She also works as a brow professional and expert lash artist. At The Bar Aesthetics she does scalp micropigmentation for thinning hair, hair loss, alopecia and scalp scarring, and offers permanent makeup and advanced aesthetic treatments. Through her teaching she covers consultations, client communication, business basics and marketing, and has supported students in building SMP careers across the San Francisco Bay Area and elsewhere.
