About

Chad Zatezalo is a board-certified oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and ophthalmologist and holds Fellow status with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His work spans plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic procedures on the eyelids, orbit, lacrimal system, upper face and midface. He sees patients at GZ Skin & Face in Spring Valley, and he consults for the Center for Facial Nerve Recovery and LAFace Center for Oculofacial Surgery. He came to the Washington area in 2012 from Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. Nonsurgical treatments include Botox, Dysport and Restylane, along with laser resurfacing and light-based treatments for wrinkles and discoloration on the face and eyelids, performed on the Sciton platform. Scar revision on the face and eyelids is a focus, as is correcting complications from eyelid surgery. His research centers on surgical scar treatment and on acquired and congenital anophthalmia. Training includes a two-year ASOPRS-accredited oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Bascom Palmer, following service as chief resident in ophthalmology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, and a B.S. in biomedical engineering, summa cum laude, at the University of Virginia on a full scholarship. He has published a seven-year clinical trial of eyelid surgery techniques and numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and he has lectured nationally and internationally on facial scar treatment and revisional eyelid surgery.
