About

Carlos Murillo, MD, founded Murillo Plastic Surgery and serves as its head surgeon. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon, first certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in November 2015, holds a Texas medical license, and is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Texas in Houston.

He earned a bachelor's degree in molecular biology at the University of Texas at Austin and a medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2000. His general surgery residency was at Texas Tech University in El Paso. He later completed a research fellowship in the surgery basic science and cancer lab at the Galveston branch from 2002 to 2004, and taught advanced trauma life support there from 2002 to 2005 and at Texas Tech from 2005 to 2008. He completed a burn fellowship with critical care training, and a plastic surgery fellowship from 2010 to 2012, at UTHealth Houston, where he was also an advanced burn life support instructor from 2009 to 2012.

His focus includes microsurgery and complex lower extremity free flap reconstruction, along with acute and reconstructive burn surgery. Breast reconstruction is one of his main areas, using the DIEP flap, tissue expanders and oncoplastic techniques. He chooses implants, flap reconstruction or fat grafting for each patient based on a personalized plan. He also performs body contouring, including tummy tuck and liposuction, using novel liposuction techniques for contouring and for restoring breast volume. Other work includes rhinoplasty, covering tip refinement, asymmetry correction and breathing-related nasal surgery, as well as hand surgery that addresses function and appearance. He takes time with patients, listening carefully and explaining things clearly.
