About
Brett Kotlus is a cosmetic oculoplastic surgeon in New York City, where he has led his own practice since 2014. Before opening it, he spent eight years in a Midwest cosmetic surgery office offering surgical and non-surgical aesthetic treatments. He holds a master's degree in genetics from Pennsylvania State University and an MD from the Sackler School of Medicine. He trained first in a residency at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, which is part of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and then completed two fellowships in Tucson, Arizona, one in oculofacial plastic surgery and one in general cosmetic surgery.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board-certified in oculoplastic surgery. His listed certifications come from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Board of Ophthalmology, and he is certified in both oculoplastic and cosmetic surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, where he has served as a past board trustee. He is affiliated with New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. He received the Robert F. Jackson Award for the top score on the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery oral exam, along with an American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award. It calls him award-winning and lists him among the top-rated ASOPRS-certified oculoplastic surgeons in New York City.
His practice centres on the eyes, eyelids and face. Procedures include blepharoplasty, Asian blepharoplasty, double eyelid surgery, revision upper eyelid surgery, canthoplasty and canthopexy during lower eyelid surgery, and cannula filling of the tear trough. He also gives Botox and Dysport treatments, and roughly a third of that work involves correcting results from injections performed elsewhere. Every day he dissolves hyaluronic acid filler using hyaluronidase. Outside the operating room, he has received a research grant from the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation, holds a U.S. patent for a 3D custom implant design system, has written two books and 38 clinical articles, and has given 65 lectures. He hosts a blog and podcast on appearing well with or without surgery. A colleague quoted on the website describes him as thoughtful and skilled, and as an authority in cosmetic surgery.
