About
Arash Akhavan, MD, FAAD, founded The Dermatology and Laser Group and serves as its director and as the practice's Chief Medical Reviewer, overseeing the clinical content on its website. He is a board-certified dermatologist with the American Board of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He holds a faculty position in the Mount Sinai Department of Dermatology, where he has taught injectables for 17 or more years. He earned an undergraduate degree with honors from Cornell University and a medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha. His dermatology residency at The Mount Sinai Medical Center covered medical dermatology, cosmetic dermatology and dermatologic surgery, and he served as chief resident. He has published peer-reviewed work and textbook chapters on dermatology. He is an Allergan Faculty Trainer, teaching advanced injection technique to physicians, and a Revance Guru Trainer for Daxxify. He is a key opinion leader for BTL Aesthetics, Avéli and Cynosure, and lectures for several device and injectable companies. He has completed over 15,000 Botox treatments and focuses on neuromodulators and advanced facial contouring, including masseter, platysma and trapezius treatments. He also performs fractional and CO2 laser resurfacing, PicoWay tattoo removal and laser protocols for darker skin types, and uses Emsculpt NEO, Emface and SkinIO digital mole mapping. He has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for 13 consecutive years and has been named a New York Magazine Best Doctor and a New York Times Super Doctor. For Botox, he begins with a facial anatomy exam that assesses muscle strength and movement at rest and during expression, and he personally performs every treatment. For laser work he evaluates skin in person, selects the device, depth and density, and calibrates the laser at the start of each session. He also personally evaluates every medical dermatology patient, focusing on acne, acne scarring, mole evaluation and skin cancer screening.
