About
Amber Muhammad owns Rasa Salon, where she works as a natural hair artist. She has held a Pennsylvania cosmetology license since 1997 and earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Tyler School of Art. Her signature areas are locs for every hair texture, yarn-based creative styling and locking methods of her own design. Across styling, color and make-up, her approach borrows from hair traditions of Africa, India, Asia and Native American communities. She created the Rasa Styling System, a program that trains and certifies stylists in her methods, and also launched a line of Rasa healing products. Muhammad is part of the Jane Carter Solutions Styling Team, and she has led classes at the Taliah Waajid World Natural Hair Health and Beauty Show, the Baltimore Natural Hair Care Expo and the International Beauty Show in New York City. She has done hair and make-up for clients including Jill Scott, Marc Jacobs and Foxy Brown, and her work has appeared in Philly Style Magazine, Vibe, Vibe Vixen and Newsweek. She won the City Paper Style Wars.
