Alan Chen, MD

Alan Chen, MD is a board certified plastic and hand surgeon who holds the FACS credential. He has practiced plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery in Joliet, Illinois since 2007, and offers cosmetic surgical consultations.

He earned a bachelor of arts cum laude from Cornell University and a medical degree with honors from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. His general surgery residency was at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, part of Harvard Medical School in Boston, under Dr. Josef Fischer. He then completed a two-year surgical research fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine in the Division of Vascular Surgery. His plastic and reconstructive surgery residency and a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship were both at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the residency under Dr. W.P. Andrew Lee.

His reconstructive work spans the head, neck, trunk and extremities, using microvascular methods such as limb reattachment and free flaps. His orthopedic hand and upper extremity practice includes over 1,000 cases, including shoulder, elbow and wrist arthroscopy, and more than 240 distal radius and wrist fracture operations. On the aesthetic side he performs body contouring, breast augmentation and facial procedures.
